Xijiaominxiang - A Famous Hutong

Xijiaominxiang is one of the most famous Hutong located in the southern part of Xicheng District. It is next to Tiananmen Aquare and Qianmen Street. Winding about 1,000 meters long and 10 meters wide, Xijiaominxiang is larger than the average hutong.

Xijiaominxiang has a unique history. It was first built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), but became prominent about 100 years ago. At that time, several domestic and overseas banks chose to open in that location making it the original financial street of this city. Many  architecture of old banks also can be seen in this Hutong, including the former sites of the Central Bank, China Agriculture and Industry Bank and Mainland Bank. Visitors come to this area can also easy to visit Tiananmen Square, Qianmen Street, China Numismatic Museum.
