The Legation Quarter



Located near Tiananmen Square, Legation Quarter was the place where U.S. Embassy handled official business. This elegant quadrangle of two-story buildings has now been loveingly restored and houses a range of restaurants and bars and an art gallery.
The commercial quadrant – which opened straight into the jaws of the credit crunch – is home to several exclusive restaurants, shops and an art gallery. The attractive green-roofed, orange brick building further east at No 40 is the stately former Dutch Legation.

Panjiayuan Flea Market


As the largest antiques market among its kind both in China and Asia, the Panjianyuan Flea Market is a place where every imaginable curio, artifact and fake Tang dynasty knock-off is on sale.
All kinds of souvenirs are available for sale. There are reproductions from the late Qing Dynasty as well as real stuff from the Cultural Revolution era. The Antique Zone is open everyday, but the Arts and Crafts Warehouse Zone open on Saturday and Sunday only.

Coal Hill Park


To the north of Forbidden City and east of Beihai Park, Coal Hill Park used to be the royal garden of Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.
Apart from its famous historic and cultural sites and beautiful views, now Coal Hill Park is also famous for its peony flowers. It is one of the biggest parks for flowers exhibition in Beijing.
